Community Tasting Notes 5

July 4, 2022 - Union des Grands Crus: The nose on the 2019 Gruaud Larose is interesting and complex, with red berries, spice, rose, a savory soy sauce element. A little hot on the palate, unusually, but there's plenty of fruit, a slightly herbal note, and tannin. Very tannic by 2019 St Julien standards.

    NB wax capsules since 2018.

July 1, 2022 - Gruaud is definitely back in 2019. We are back to old school, masculine Bordeaux here. This outscores all Saint Julien wines for me and is going to be something really special with cellar time. I will grab a case and burry it...Lots of good funk and chocolate is buried in this Gruaud...Im so happy that his is back on tobacco road. HOLD

June 30, 2022 - Subdued fruit, floral pastiche. FUll bodied. At LA UGC.

June 28, 2022 - UGC Bordeaux (Union Station - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Brooding and meaty with lots of powerful, backward fruit, begrudgingly giving some richness in the middle, then ending with a long, firm finish. Very good, 92-94 points, 2034 forward.

March 29, 2022 - Earthy, smoky, fresh, and minty with notes of tobacco leaf, cedar, and currants with blackberries on the nose. The wine is fresh, bright and crunchy with a nice bite of cassis and cranberry in the dusty finish. Drink from 2026-2047.
