August 2, 2014 - A long 3 1/2 years between bottles, and this one sadly is my last 05 SH. I've since drank all my old SH Lucia, and with this one, now my Novy. Sentimentality will often guide me away from opening wines, especially wines like this that go a way back into my early CT days and wines that I have held onto for some time. I have great fondness for both Jeff Pisoni and Adam Lee, guys who I see as integrity players and who own great knowledge about the wine biz so to that end, the bottle has that emotion attached to it, as well. I opened this about an hour ago, I don't think it will need more air than its seen, as it's ready to drink. Has a bit of old leather and smoke on the nose, with a palate that remains squarely juicy, with a touch of savory red fruit but mainly blueberry and a refresing sense of acidity, dare say delicate too and a savory eucalyptus note. Really quite beautiful. I guess we never know when a wine is hit the peak or treading down the other side and with really nothing contemporary in terms of notes in CT, I add mine here to frame out for those who still own the bottle as to the good quality I still find here. This ought to drink good for a few more years and in the lore of the SH Vineyard, this was one of the early ones. Thanks for the gift, Adam.

June 10, 2012 - Dark and deep purple. Lavender, violet and meat on an aromatic nose with the all characteristics of a new world syrah. On the palate this wine is powerful, meaty, cracked pepper and other spicy characteristics dominate along with dark berry fruit. The finish is relatively long and grippy, with a hint of spice and heat. On the balance this wine this struck me as too big and primal, the dense fruit, possibly the oak and an untamed sauvage element were too prominent. On the upside I was surprised at how well the wine has held up and I'm sure it would develop for a few years under proper storage conditions.

March 11, 2011 - PnP. Deep violet with some red. Black fruits, spices and meat on nose.
Powerful dark fruits on entry to palate that do not fade. Meaty/spice components add complexity on the palate and the tannins and acidity are just sufficient to keep the balance acceptable. Almost feels like drinking a (delicious) food (actual food optional).
