August 20, 2017 - Very pure, rocky red fruit with garrigue and briers. Tannins quite smooth now, but acidity is holding up.

April 18, 2016 - 1st Cayuse I've had this old. I opened at 12 noon and started drinking about 7 pm. Tannin's completely resolved. Had the typical Cayuse funk on the nose but very subdued when drinking, silky, but did not have the depth flavors I've found in recent vintages. I think I'll keep his wines in a 6-8 year max drinking window.

October 25, 2014 - Domestic (err.... sortof) Syrah (... well, mostly...) (The Apt): Opened and decanted and poured relatively quickly. This wine really benefited with time though and was drinking very differently by the second go around. Standard Cayuse funk but as others have mentioned it was more muted and even a bit more elegant in this wine. Nice meat and bacon and rocks flavors. No fruit to speak of. It's drinking really well now (with some air time), but does seem to be towards end of drinking window so would be finishing up. Very polarizing wine - favorite for a few folks but others felt it was too mild.

July 29, 2013 - Much more smooth and understated than more recent Cayuse vintages -- perhaps the effect of a bit of age. Very delightful wine. Definite cherry on the nose and palate, thus living up to its name. A day later still well put together. On day two a bit stronger hint of roast meats on the palate; still cherry, with a bit of anise and pepper on the nose. Curious to see how this is in a few years....

June 20, 2013 - Interesting nose of subtle asian spice and licorice with hints of phenol. Not an overly long body but finishes with hints of plum and pepper.

November 19, 2010 - Purple color with a lille red at the rim. Similar profile to the 5/14/2010 bottle except a touch more elegant and complex and a much better match with food. At peak.

June 27, 2010 - Needed air on opening, but was better the second day. Didn't try the last glass on the third day.

May 19, 2010 - Didn't have the barnyard smell that others noted in our bottle. I actually thought the smell was subdued. It had a nice asian plum fruit that was slightly faded with a black pepper finish. Very drinkable now and will not likely improve with additional age.

May 14, 2010 - Purple color. Still youthful aromas of violets, blackberries, roasted meats and herbs. Rich, tongue-coating fruit in the mouth with soft tannins, very good depth and a long, sweet finish. Despite the extract not heavy on the palate. Not a great match, however, with Serbian grilled meats but a fun wine to drink.
