December 4, 2023 - I wish I had paid closer attention to this incredible wine.
It seemed bright and citrusy, without oaky or buttery or caramel characteristics. This paired just perfectly with homemade turkey noodle soup.
July 10, 2023 - First of our Aubert purchases that we've opened, Really wonderful and expressive "sonoma coast" blend, we drank before the 2021 Pinot Noir fall release, just to remind us of the Aubert quality. Really delicious chardonnay for $65. Wonderful texture, acidity pops out after some air. We love it.
June 1, 2023 - This was awesome! Super deep and buttery. WOTN.
January 4, 2023 - More approachable young than their others. More fruit, less acidity. Still very intetesting, integrated and delicious.
October 30, 2022 - Just opened my recent allocation. Popped and Poured (PnP). Immediate aromatic notes of wood and green honeysuckle just getting ready to burst from the bottle. I did not decent so notes are immediate (within 15 min) I get in mouth flavors of acidity and underdeveloped fruits. This wine is way to young to open. Numerous notes of white fruits and green plum which make this oh so maddening that I even opened it. The wine is in charge and demands restraint. But this is still an Aubert Chardonnay: oaky and commanding. Delicious. Drink now with proper decanting or hold 2+ years.
December 11, 2021 - Decanted for about 2.5 hours and then I dove in. Lovely wine, certainly needs at least 2.5-3 hours of decanting to get started as other commenters mentioned. Enticing notes of white fruits and green plum. It's fun to taste this wine back to back with a fresh Japanese cucumber: The wine becomes smoky and takes on an agave-type character reminiscent of a fine mezcal. But this is still an Aubert Chardonnay: oaky and commanding. Delicious. Drink now with proper decanting or hold 2+ years.
November 25, 2021 - The correct rating for this wine is NR...but today was probably a 91 based on how it drank. Very young wine. But has all the bones. Sharp acidic character but has a nose of youthful yellow juicy fruit and great structure amd balance that Mark Aubert et Al are famous for!. This wine had two family members today who told me "I don't drink white wine" reaching for the bottle so that they "could try a little bit more" 😂. Went well with turkey and ham and stuffing (see other posts for the 'food p0rn" side of things. Have 4 more of these and will probably hold all of them for at least another 2 years. Happy Thanksgiving!
August 8, 2021 - I knew this was too early to try but had to give it a taste. It was my first bottle of Aubert. Have quite a few single vineyards laying down but thought WTH and popped this one open. Decanted for 1.5hrs. Tons of oak and not meshing well with the fruit right now. Stone fruit, lemon, mineral, butterscotch/Werthers. Long finish and really opened after about 3 hrs. High acidity. Has tons of promise for the future. Definitely going to wait a while before trying some others.
April 14, 2021 - Lemon skin. Crayons. River rock. Metallic backbone. Decent enough
April 8, 2021 - Butterscotch, nuts, some of fruit pulp... not too rich at all due to balanced acidity. This is just an entry bottle of Aubert, but very enjoyable.
