Community Tasting Notes 4

July 16, 2010 - Last had this wine in 2007. Nose is still fabulous, with strong notes of vanilla and cherry. Before, it was a bit simple and a tad coarse on the palate, but it has settled down into an elegant medium-bodied wine. Along the way, it threw a surprising amount of sediment.

November 14, 2008 - deep ruby color, very expressive bouquet of forest floor, moss, fall leaves, some cherry and sage. Wood tannins predominate on the tongue, short finish. This could last for another 4-7 years. But I'll come back to the bouquet which is worth the price of admission alone.

October 19, 2007 - Prieto Picudo is native to Spain and a varietal that was historically used to make lots of rose and poor bulk wines. It is sometimes blended with Mencia and or Tempranillo. The grape is very small with thin skin which has made it prone to rot, frost, and mildew. Pardevalles was the first winery to trellis their Prieto Picudo vines which has increased the aeration of the bunches and reducing the previous problems. Their vines are now over 20 years old and this wine ages for 6 months in older French oak. The color is deep cherry red with beautiful aromas of bing cherry, allspice, black raspberry, and chocolate covered strawberries. The wine is dry, medium heavy body, lively acidity, medium astringent tannins, and a long juicy finish. On the palate black cherry, black plum and raspberry come together. This is a unique Spanish red that wine geeks should love and casual drinkers will at least appreciate. Then again just try it and decide for yourself. 4/5

September 30, 2007 - This was really enjoyable. It has a taste different in a way that I can not describe, but quite enjoyable. What is describable, is the nice dark fruit, spice, chocolate and licorice. Luxurious mouthfeel. A good QPR.
