March 17, 2024 - Decanted about 3 hours prior to consumption at Bear Stanley Ranch in Napa.

    Get the short-ribs!!!!!!! Best ever.

Oh so this was really nice. Smooth, nice balance and finish. Was a tad on the new world in style which held it back IMO. Could have been more complex.

However, this suffered next to the 1997 Percarlo which was absolutely stunning. There was a richness to that which made the rioja seem a bit shy.

I'd say the 04 was in a good drinking window. May improve w more bottle age. Was hoping for a little more complexity. However, it did best the 2007 Insignia which came in last place out of the 3 I brought.

April 22, 2023 - Amazing expressive bouquet without any flaws, secondary and tertiary ripe fruit flavors. Has aged well and gracefully. Full body mouthfeel with impeccable balance. Long length and pleasant finish. A classic Rioja. Where can I find a 2010 or 2019 bottle?!

November 13, 2022 - Brilliant, charming, right on top and years to go. This is spectacular wine. I don't see why professional critics don't praise this wine but instead only give moderate reviews (except for Tim Atkin). This is full of dark, ripe fruit, cola, tree bark, inky blueberry, fine chocolate, coffee notes and all this is held together by an enticing structure and a perfect integrated acidity. It is dark, ripe yet fresh a with a long and very satisfying length. The 2004 has still a lot of grip and I imagine that it could be even more alluring with less youthful baby fat, that it still has. Thanks to seƱor de Grigorio.

January 11, 2021 - Somewhat spoofy, but in a good way. On cusp of benefiting from decant. Elected to leave open a couple of hours. Violet with hint of red. More complex as evening wore on and wine warmed. Blackberry, dark cherry, lead pencil and hint of roasted meat on nose. Full bodied fruit on palate with deep penetration, but quite nicely balanced with some (light) acidity and still prominent tannin. Beautiful length. Just great with food (migas and pork chops). Good now or hold for at least a decade.

August 16, 2020 - Lovely wine. Well balanced. Still has some youth in it. Lots of blackberry, cassis up front. Strong finish with some graphite lead pencil notes. Still surprisingly tannic. Went beautifully with a herb rubbed, grilled pork chop.

(Finca Allende CALVARIO) By and By Dear Friends, We've had a lot of requests for the 2003 Bollinger since we first offered it (probably from the new WS review that backed up Parker's assessment) but the new wholesale is closer to $100 - they were not very happy about offering the same price as the first round (pre-review) but I was able to squeeze a small additional amount at the same tarriff which looks like a bargain at this point. Here's the original offer from earlier in the summer with the new WS review: ************************************* Friday Focus (Redux): Bollinger "This wine has received a great deal of chatter recently after Parker's 95pt assessment on his Asian foray (documented on his web site). I believe this was one of the highest rated bottles of Champagne on his entire trip (and he tasted top bottles left and right, every night). Called a "white burgundy with bubbles" this Champagne is idiosyncratic, eccentric and one of a kind - that's why they named it as such ("by Bollinger" instead of just another Grande Annee). Controversial? Maybe but there is a huge contingent out there that could drink this every night. Batard mixed with a ripe Clos du Mesnil? If you close your eyes, it's possible. This is not the Grande Annee - "by Bollinger" is the winery's top cuvee in 2003." 2003 Bollinger "by Bollinger" (750ml) (RP95) STRICT LIMIT 12/person ************************************** In addition to the Bollinger, a few other wines of note...along with the requisite cut and paste fodder. I believe all of these have arrived and will be available for local pick up in 2-3 weeks. All prices should be darn low - the Vigna Rionda is as cheap as I've ever seen: 2004 Finca Allende Calvario STRICT LIMIT 12/person 2005 L'Oustal Blanc Minervois EXTREMELY LIMITED 2005 L'Oustal Blanc Minervois "Maestoso" EXTREMELY LIMITED 2006 Domaine Collotte Chambolle-Musigny STRICT LIMIT 12/person This is a delicious wine that will drink well in the mid-term - better than many 2005's and one of the only 2006 wines we've carried. 2000 Oddero Barolo "Vigna Rionda" (GR3) STRICT LIMIT 3/person at this price Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ7100 Spain8640 SOFR6810 SOFR6820 Burg9210 Italy7601
