Community Tasting Notes 2

January 27, 2023 - Dense, inky red colour. Vegetal nose with a bit of funk and red fruits. Lovely juicy, fruity flavour with a touch of oak and green peppers. Fresh and enjoyable. Still feels young - plenty of time left.

February 23, 2022 - Tasted blind. Decanted. Med+ to deep purple/violet. Med+ to pronounced reductive notes, Brett and earth. When these eventually blow off, ripe black fruit, menthol, dried green herbs and smoke emerge, followed by a pronounced grilled bell pepper note, w/ some mocha and spice from French oak (9 mos.). Youthful. Dry, w/ med to med+ acidity, med+ tannins and high alcohol (14.5%). Full-bodied, with med+ flavor intensity and length, with a slight licorice bitterness on the finish. Drink now, with an extended decant, and for several years to come.

Overall, this seems like moderate to warm climate red. The funkiness of the nose implies Old World, but the fruit, alcohol and oak imply New World. The color points to Malbec, Montepulciano, Syrah, Aglianico, Pinotage, Cab Franc, Carmenere. The pronounced pyrazines exclude all but the Cab Franc and Carmenere. Cab Franc, however, would tend to be higher in acid and lower in alcohol. The smoked hatch chile pepper is classic Chilean Carmenere.
