October 22, 2021 - Light, mild taste, easy with food like pizza. Best cold.

  • EMark Likes this wine:

October 7, 2021 - Quite mellow red fruit on the tip of the tongue, Good acid level--plenty of structure, but no tartness. Still fairly tannic. Some spiciness under the rear palate.

August 25, 2021 - Drank head to head with the 2017 Tenuta Riserva, which we thought was significantly better than the Monsanto.

Ruby body with purple flares. Nose has musky oak, raisin, cherries, mineral and a prominent caramel note. Palate is acidic, with cherries and dark bramble. Soft mouth feel, and elegant delivery despite the high acid. Feels almost water vs. the Tenuta because of the relative lack of tannin. I think there are much better wines and Chiantis at this price point.

August 9, 2021 - Well The Big 3 Parker, Suckling & WS all had this as OMG me just being a consumer what do I know? I know that their taste buds are certainly different then mine and their preferences are as well. While This is a very good wine perhaps my lack of appreciation for the Italian grapes does not allow me to go into the 90 plus OMG category. Quite light in color as it should be for a Sangiovese their description dark garnet Um Sorry Nope. Very mineral like up front with smoke and ash followed by a mellow finish of some bright fruits like cherry. No tannins to speak off so I don't see holding this as something that will get better with age. A solid wine enjoyable but enough with the accolades.

    August 6, 2021 - 14.0% abv.
Early check in - I like to give the Monsanto CCR 6+ years from vintage before consuming. This one may need a little more time than that, as it is oak-dominant at the moment, with some heavy cigar notes to go along with the typical Sangio cherry and ample acidity. Finish is fairly bitter with a lot of oak tones. I think this will still be very good with enough time, but a clear step down from the stellar 2015 and 2016 vintages (still waiting on those, too).
