August 21, 2021 - Nothing additional to report than my notes below but I can confirm this is still an incredible wine and while I didn’t think it was possible but it was surpassed by another wine tonight. Hard to do as Dr Crane is one of my top 3 vineyards. 95++

I will put this line on all of my tasting notes from this lineup- not sure if they have any left but if they do, jump at the chance to buy or at a minimum get on the list as this vintage and winery strategy is at an entirely new level (the LC shows how focused they are on the future). The best horizontal tasting from the same winery I have ever had.

July 27, 2021 - Vice Versa weekend and dinner: The first time I sampled the 2019 Crane back in April, it was surprisingly shut down and playing coy. Well, it’s done hiding in the corner and waiting to be asked to dance. This sample was exactly what I expect from top-shelf Crane. As much as I loved the LPV, and as much as I loved humble-bragging to my CT’er pal Cristal2000 about how LPV seemed to inch ahead of Crane once again in side-by-side comparative tastings, there is no denying that the Crane is a house favorite. Among twenty or so folks, I have to begrudgingly confess to hearing chants of “Ze Crane! Ze Crane!,” like I was surrounded by a gaggle of little Fantasy Island Tattoo zealots ready to declare the Second Coming of Crane.

Though the Crane was tighter than some of its siblings on the initial pull of the shiner, it eventually busted out the front door with deliciously fruity red and black cherry, plum jam, and spice in a way in which no other wine can deliver. A darker cassis element came into play after the flavors toyed around more with air and temperature, expanding and undulating along its jammin’ attack. What can I say? It’s a wine that “flirts with perfection” (as the eminent Pros seem to routinely utter when they are tired of handing out 100 pointers like Oprah doling-out Pontiacs “…and you get a car, and you get a car…!” ).

I think ultimately this Crane will be an ager, one that will certainly provide immediate near-term gratification for all the impatients of the world who can’t wait to guzzle these down (to whom I cannot blame in the slightest), but will best benefit from some time in bottle to really get its juices flowing (see what I did there…?!...juices flowing…? Get it? …Anyway…). 97-98+ points for the remarkable 2019 Crane.

July 24, 2021 - Vice Versa Wine Dinner: This is always a wow wine for me. The LPV and M7 had a slightly better showing, but this was no slouch and showed as much promise as ever. All the blueberry pie, white flowers, crushed rock and wet stone that is normally associated with this vineyard explodes from the glass. Powerfully rich and concentrated with that oh so ridiculously pure and yummy blue fruit reaching every crevasse of the palate, this is stunning. I am always taken by the unreal purity of the fruit from this site, and this vintage shows it off in spades. Perfectly integrated tannins and seamless texture frame pure opulence and hedonism in a glass. The finish is massive and has a nice mineral streak. 98+

July 20, 2021 - Drank this in March at Vice Versa. Samantha was an incredible host and the wine tasting was exceptional. I have never had a wine with fruit this rich and pure. CAUTION: this is not for the faint of heart. Use any adjective you want hedonistic, voluptuous, sexy, mouth coating, they all apply. I would probably drink this bottle on its own as it would over power most food. Most times I prefer a fine wine as my entrée anyway. This was a barrel sample and the 2019's I drank on this trip all had great fruit and were very accessible. I have seen tasting notes comparing 2019 to 2014 but for me I thought they were more similar to 2012. I believe they will drink very well early with great fruit. This was the best wine I had ever drunk until I had the To Kalon.

May 12, 2021 - Napa 2021 Trip; 5/10/2021-5/13/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): Up there with the Kinsmans for wine of the trip. Final blend barrel sample. This one is insane, and ordered another bottle for my fall shipment.

Purity of the fruit is off the chart here. All types of fruit - blue, black, red - combined harmoniously, mixed with resolved tannins, baking spices. This is a wine that comes from the folks at VV doing everything with a labor of love, and attention to detail, many others in the valley don't do. Bravo
