In the 73 iteration (which this is) they wanted more color so its got a punch of color. 140 year old Syrah vines. And all three properties that they own right now there is a massive diurnal swing. Hence they get phenolic maturity before they hit sugar ripeness. Black to purple to red fruit to it. Loganberry and Boysenberry.

April 29, 2022 - Pop and pour. Bright red fruit and tobacco on the nose. Palate of tart cherries, tobacco and some oak. Tannic and not much acidity. It got better over the next two hours. Decant for an hour or two next time.

March 12, 2022 - I used to be a huge fan of this wine years ago. Of course, I realize that every lot is slightly different but they are usually consistently good value wines. Lot 71 was awful! Sweet, over ripe and very odd flavors that defy description. Definitely not a good value.
