Community Tasting Notes 5

July 24, 2023 - We had this alongside the Tollot-Beaut Chorey from my last note and they share a common heritage - joy. This is a darker red, slightly, but you would still describe it as bright and luminous. This has terrific energy to it, supple and flexible, vivacious and easy-going. In other words another bottle of simple but well made Pinot Noir that is just singing. I placed it ahead of the Tollot-Beaut by a whisker but really its nothing. I felt this was just a tad more restrained, a bit more serious, and with a better balance to it. But I kept coming back to the Chorey for that simple overriding pleasure and that extra sweetness. Ultimately both bottles disappeared over the course of the evening to universal acclaim. As long as I can continue to source this type of wine for a reasonable price I am happy to let others snap up the big name Grand Crus; this is all I need to be happy for 90% of the time.

June 6, 2023 - Had this tonight to see if did match to how I had perceived a Maranges at a tasting, and it did! What it had in common is just a simple expression of joy. This is inexpensive red burgundy that delivers exactly what you want from it. Not profound, not complex, just delicious. Lasted three days (a miracle in this house) and lost very little. Excessively large/fat bottle my only gripe.

April 28, 2023 - This has put on some weight! Deep red fruits, a hint of earth with a nice mineral streak. This has a long runway. Yum!

January 15, 2023 - Flat out delicious. Crunchy red fruit on the lighter scale, supple and balanced, light and delicate. The focus here is simply on enjoyment and this was great with a lighter meal of cold cuts. Interestingly, and a first for me in Burgundy, this was bottled under screwcap. Drink this any time over the next three years I would say. Lovely, and excellent value to boot.

April 19, 2022 - This is outstanding. Full of strawberries, cherries and petals. The wine is clean and precise. Speechleess wine, very expressive. Not pretending to be anything else, no need at all. Not deep, nor multilayers or density. It is all about finesse, delicacy and beautiful harmony. Everything work together as the best possible team. Monsieur Leroux achieved the best possible outcome from these humble parcels. This is the best pinot expression from a village. Chapeau!!!
