Community Tasting Notes 5

January 31, 2022 - 13% alcohol. From a half bottle. Short Diam5 closure with minimal inscription. Youthful purple colour with a fair bit of depth.
The nose shows liquorice and violet in a very pleasant way; not terribly pinot-ish at first, but that comes upon swirling, after time in the glass. More typical in the mouth with wild cherry and a slightly burly character; very good balance and acidity. No obtrusive oak.
Not a great match for roast chicken. Much better on its own afterwards.
A very successful Chalonnais pinot, more muscular than refined, but it is early days. There is certainly plenty of fruit here.
I seem to remember that the 2018 was much richer, but not necessarily better; to be checked at the earliest opportunity.

November 21, 2021 - Found the wood treatment really overpowering here so much I was not able to get a good view of the fruit. Maybe a few years will allow the fruit to come forward but I wonder why so much new oak is used to this extent.

November 14, 2021 - Must agree with abharwine.

Definitely well made, but the fruits are shadowed by the oak treatment, hard to taste something else.

Will try again in 2 years.

November 10, 2021 - ...Its now open and decanted for 3 hours. Tasted on opening and to be honest little or no different 3 hours later. Fruit present but muted and dominated by oak. Other 2 bottles going away for a long stretch.

91-92 pts
