May 10, 2024 - Petroleum, peach, pear, ripe honeydew and cantaloupe, nectarine, and candied lime on the nose.

It’s broad and expansive on the palate with lively acidity and lots of grip. The finish is great. Lovely balance of fruit and structure. I’d love to revisit this with some more bottle age.

April 2, 2024 - Tasted blind along with the 2019 and 2021. Much more muted on the nose than [the 2019]. Apricot, peach, not much to pick up on right now. Full bodied, more plush than [the 2019]. The acid is still quite strong, but more integrated and spread out. More sweetness than [the 2019] as well. Just more pleasant all-around.

Flavors are somewhat subdued like the nose, though more discernible. Apricot, peach pie, lime zest, slightly creamy. Stone/white pepper minerality.

With extended air it gets more acidity/citrusy on the finish, which is also where the minerality strengthens and becomes the last note. Developed more sweetness with time, and some melon and orchid.

On day 2 the nose is still muted. The flavor profile is a little sweeter – there’s some honeysuckle on it now – and a little floral and more orange, less stone fruit. The acid picks up throughout the experience, and tops out on the finish. It’s starting to show just a bit of nuttiness.

On day 3 the nose remains muted. Very similar to day 2, maybe a bit softer and rounder and lusher.

November 13, 2023 - I get why everyone raves about this Riesling. Good value and great acidity and minerality. Will buy again.

June 12, 2023 - Retail $35. Under cork. There are few constants in life: death, taxes, and stellar Riesling from Smith-Madrone. This is a perfect example. While it is close to a full five years out, this is actually the current release from the venerable winery. Medium color in the glass with lemon predominate as well as some lemon rind, a bit of wet rock, and a hint of an herbal aspect (basil?). The palate is simply exquisite, great fruit, good weight, fantastic acidity. Whoa. Perhaps a *bit* rounder than previous vintages, but holy cow. 93 Points.

March 4, 2023 - Pretty color of light gold.

Strong nose of citrus, lemons, yellow apples, pears, limes, light earth, diesel and minerals.

Full bodied and creamy with high acidity.

Dry on the palate with a touch of RS to balance it out.

Showing limes, lemons, green and red apples, minerals, light earth, light diesel, herbs and white pepper.

Long finish with light almonds and limes.

This 5-year-old Riesling from Napa Valley is drinking so nicely now. Elegant and rich.

I've had the 2017 some time ago, and this vintage drinks much better.

Well balanced with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Neither tart nor bitter, and I love that. Buttery and creamy. Soft and smooth.

Will be interesting to revisit it in 5 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after some air time. Better when not too cold. Good by itself as a sipping wine.

    13.3% alcohol by volume.

    92 points.

    $36.

March 4, 2023 - Medium yellow color. The aromas pop with peaches, pineapple, lime, accented with honeycomb, white tea, and plenty of chalky, limestone, and saline tones. The palate sports lip-smacking acidity and a peachy-keen appeal with honeydew melon and lime. There are so many chalky, mineral, crushed rock, and mountain stream vibes to parse through here, but the wine maintains an effortless feel. This vintage seems like it will age for a very long time, as there’s a ton to unpack. Still, absolutely delicious right now, and so expressive. Absurd value.
