Community Tasting Notes 20

January 8, 2023 - On PnP, dark, dark, dark fruits, with some bricking. Acids a bit subdued, but soft, lovely tannins present on middle palate. Long finish. Slightly on the sweet side with the fruits, with notes of leather, licorice, black plums and just a bit of cola. Still very much alive and getting better in the glass. Drink now, as it's on its way down. For 14.5%, not as much burn as one might expect.

July 11, 2017 - 2005 LEVIATHAN RED WINE- this Bordeaux blend was made by former Screaming Eagle winemaker, Andy Erickson; interesting it was and that`s what was asked of us to bring to this tasting in the red category; it was very intense with an immense sweet black fruit profile that dominated; some leather and liquorice came through and tried to subdue the wine, but failed; it was full throttled, full on and in general, a huge, masculine wine.

October 4, 2015 - Dark, not altogether clear; dried fruit, leather on the nose. After a while (~2 hrs) it was drinking quite nicely. Dark fruits, with fig, licorice, leather. Medium finish. Tannins were nearly gone, so my thinking is that it is at the end of its drinking window; but it is still solid, and quite interesting. Medium finish. This feels like the biker bar of wines; for those in Chicago, this is the Twisted Spoke of wines.

January 11, 2013 - Wonderful wine. Rich deep. Drinking beautifully. Still has plenty of years in it.

June 2, 2012 - This wine made by former Screaming Eagle winemaker, Andy Erickson. Better than past bottles that we've had. Very nice wine, but there was something missing. Seemed a bit thin. The alcohol was noticeably present which, to us, set the wine off balance. This surprised us. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed the experience.
