January 27, 2024 - Holy Moly Amarone (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR): The nose is seamless and perfumed with layered tones of raspberries, plums, bitter chocolate, spice cake, black raspberries, plums, herbs, licorice, liqueur notes, and some violets. There is a lot of purity to the nose that is attractive and really draws you in. The Full bodied feel is silky and balanced with medium acidity and fine-grained, medium tannins that have basically resolved. This was a real surprise when revealed. This didn't come off as close to this level of age. This actually felt more fresh than some of the younger wines and was really lovely.

November 9, 2021 - Excellent after all these years. Decanted for two hours. Deep ruby color. Lots of fruit and raisins in this bottle, both in the nose as well in the palate. Long aftertaste. Pity I only had one bottle.

January 23, 2021 - Deep ruby colour, could not tell by colour it is a 30 year old wine. Tannins still present, some dark fruit, foresty notes, nice acidity. Would keep for a few years more. Well done Masi!

March 11, 2020 - 15,5% alcohol.
Dark yet moderately translucent brick-red color with mature russet overtones. The nose feels developed and quite tertiary with aromas of raisins, hoi sin, some beef jerky, a little bit of pungent soy sauce, light earthy tones and a hint of old, dry leather. The wine is full-bodied, developed and slightly oxidative on the palate with flavors of sour cherries and amaro bitterness, some beef jerky, a little bit of wizened cranberry, light pruney tones, a hint of smoke and an aldehydic touch of saline tang. The wine is quite high in acidity, but the tannins are fully resolved and almost imperceptible. The finish is somewhat warm with moderately long, oxidative flavors of amaro bitterness, sour cherries, some salty notes of soy sauce, light earthy tones, a little bit of crunchy cranberries, sweet hints of prunes and raisins and a sharp touch of acetaldehyde.
An Amarone that is still somewhat drinkable, but is already going downhill. The tannins are fully resolved at this point, relatively fruit remains and oxidation is starting to creep in. Most likely the wine has been in a good shape a decade ago, but has been on a decline for some years now. These are the final moments to enjoy the wine before it falls apart completely.
