January 8, 2022 - Mixed results from this case so far. 3 bottles in, 1 corked, 1 flat. This one, though, works. On decanting it’s muted but given 2+ hours to open it starts to show itself Good fruit, texture and length. Probably at the mid point if it’s window - another 3-5 years maybe. But give this one a try if you have a few - but expect some disappointment at least 1/3 of the time and maybe more

November 2, 2021 - Lovely wine that's elegant and refined with faded blue fruit and a nice lift from the Cab Franc. The finish is smooth but lacks complexity. This does nothing to dissuade me from preferring to drink Sassicaia in its youth as opposed to aging it. There is a reason why, with the exception of one or two vintages, Sassicaia performs poorly at auction and that's because it doesn't really improve after about a decade of age.

October 24, 2021 - This pours medium ruby with light bricking. The nose is expressive and concentrated, showing plum, raisin, tobacco, rosemary, old leather, dirty hat, and dry dusty soil. The palate is lush and deeply fruited replaying much of the plum, accented with dark cherry and rosemary. There is little reminding tannin and medium acid with a light bitter astringency. Just a touch of rum soaked raisin on the finish. Quite a nice bottle here. Far better than the experiences I’ve had with the 1998.

October 2, 2021 - Monumentally disappointing, given the pedigree, the vintage, the price, and how long I held this 24-year old (bought on release, maintained in temperature controlled storage, cork and fill in excellent condition). Dark, opaque, light orange brick color at the rim, lacking in Italian character, this was an enjoyable (but not exceptional) international style cabernet blend. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc. Uncorked two and a half hours before serving, matched with Lobel's filet mignon, mushrooms, butterball potatoes over 45 minutes, it was well-made, pleasant, not over-extracted or over-oaked, but lacking in complexity or nuance.

May 28, 2021 - Dark red amber edge. Celery seed, cherry nose. The fruit is sweet and fresh, cinnamon oak finish. Light body, long and wonderful.
