April 15, 2019 - Découvertes en Vallée du Rhône; 4/15/2019-4/16/2019 (Ampuis, Mauves and Tain-l'Hermitage): Walk-around tasting, talking to the producers. Ripe black fruit that I found a little too roasted and slightly off balance.

January 20, 2019 - Beautiful Cote-Rotie. In a good place right now. This was slow oxed for two hours out of a magnum. Wounderful dark fruits, well balanced with integrated tannins. Contrary to a couple reviews.......no bandaids or Brett. Just beautiful lush fruit. Still has 5+ years ahead of it. Very approachable now. Really don’t see this getting much better.

August 26, 2018 - Based on Azzah’s note, I opened my first of 3 bottles. Worst Cote Rotie I’ve ever tasted. Really shameful showing from a wine maker I respect. 85 is generous

After 3 hours in the decanter, the brett blows off. But it’s still not Côte Rotie to my taste

June 5, 2018 - Drink now if you have one before the brett takes over. Please Michel, if you’re going to charge this much for a wine, ensure it’s clean. Lots of beautiful, plush red and black fruit underneath but it’s been obscured by bandage aromas and flavours.

(Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée) This has a dark and youthful hue. The fruit profile on the nose has a rather juicy character, chewy and a touch sweet, with a perfumed edge that is particularly striking. The palate is very coolly reserved though, clean and structured, surprisingly feminine in its composition but also still very grippy and upright. In its slightly awkward youth I find this a little difficult to assess. Nevertheless, there is certainly some stony substance and potential here.
