November 23, 2011 - Very nice drinking, with mineral quality along with subtle fruit and good acidity. Over two days, this fared well, being better on day 2.

December 8, 2008 - It's OK. I'm afraid my wife and I liked the Pine Ridge Viognier/Chenin Blanc a lot better, perhaps we drank this one too cold or perhaps it's just not to our taste. It's well made and aromatic, but nothing like the Viognier blend.

December 7, 2008 - A very fine dry chenin blanc. Nose was initially closed, but opened up after an hour or so to reveal lovely sweet hay and honeysuckle notes. Very lively wine, with citrus fruit and bracing acidity making this a very food-friendly wine. Nice length, with some interesting Asian spice joining the lingering acidity on the finish. This was even great with a spicy lamb curry. Excellent.

June 17, 2008 - Our first tasting of an American chenin blanc. This wine goes a long way to helping to restore the reputation of the grape. Very enjoyable and refreshing. Nice acidity and food friendly.

11/28/2007 (link)(LEO STEEN Chenin Blanc Saini) Leo Steen Dear Friends, Your going to have to broaden your horizons for this one but it is more than worth the time and small price tag. Can great Chenin Blanc be produced in California? Yes. This wine is produced to showcase a specific terroir and not oak or extract. It is from an old-vine, dry farmed vineyard that rests on an old riverbed. Full of what is known as “loam,” the natural acid and mineral quotient is something to behold in this wine (not to mention the bottle is a very interesting shape). For a comparison, it is like a Huet sec produced in a new terroir. If nothing else, this is worth the blind tasting curiosity alone and not much was produced (I believe 300-400 cases) - all of it made by hand. This wine is very ambitious (in a good way) and it is a clear expression of its vineyard and a reminder that low alcohol is still possible in California (it seemed to be perfectly fine for 30 years during the 1960s-1980s - not sure what happened circa 1990?). With a dry, lithe personality and white fruit dripping with ground ginger, nutmeg and light baking spices, this is a California wine that actually relies on natural acidity that is racy and complicated. This wine is somewhat shocking and I will be very curious to see what everyone thinks of it. If you like dry Riesling, you will probably enjoy this quite a bit. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for quasi-revolutionary expression of dry Vouvray produced from Dry Creek Valley fruit. This parcel is directly form the winery cellar with perfect provenance: 2006 Leo Steen Chenin Blanc “Saini Vineyards” Dry Creek Valley (compare at more) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA2400
