July 2, 2022 - Fantastic wine. Length, depth and layers. Velvety. Fine notes of leather and earthy tones, notes of dark fruit.

April 23, 2022 - Just below base neck fill. Popped and poured, but finished on night two. I adore the '88 vintage in Bordeaux and it is one of my all-time favorites, at least among the better wines. Gruaud Larose overachieved in the '80s and even '70s, and this is another excellent GL. This has a rustic and very savory nose, with leather, tobacco, sous bois, anise and brambly black fruit. Some cassis, black olive and game notes on the palate, with lively acidity and smooth but slightly woodsy tannins. This is excellent and drinking at its peak.

December 15, 2021 - Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Bordeaux, St. Julien: Beautiful, complex and mature bouquet with forest floor, oak, dark berries, herbs and spices and some toast. Very luxurious and an enormous depth. Same on the palate, red berries, vanilla, tobacco, cedar. An explosion in the mouth. Beautiful acidity and mature tannin. Extraordinary and fantastic wine which is in a perfect drinking stage now.

May 20, 2021 - Not as delicious as the bottle we had a few weeks ago which was disappointing. This was a bit thinner and more austere. Still reasonable aged Bordeaux. More secondary than anything.

March 27, 2021 - I'd never been that impressed with this producer and then someone told me I needed to focus on the pre-1990 bottlings and since then I've found lots to like. This was no different. It was opened and decanted for sediment and then rebottled and brought for outdoor drinking with some new friends. Drank side by side with a '96 Spring Mountain and interesting to see how very prototypical both were. This was old school bordeaux. Drinking very well. More leather and earthy and a big of cigar. Very tasty. I might have preferred this by a hair, but both were excellent.
