Reminded me more of a Barolo than Bourgogne. I usually like S Esmonin wines and this is the 1st one that I did not enjoy. -

March 14, 2009 - Fresh, unique, drinking well now after a short decant. Cherries sprinkled with that candied anise that you find in indian restaurants.

January 19, 2008 - this is about as good as a Bourgogne can get, I would say. Lots of extraction, a very dark purple color. Lovely nose of dried rosemary, dried flowers, sandalwood, and mineral and herb flecked earth. layers of cool dark fruits on the palate and a definite mineral streak. this is broad and heady stuff for a humble regional wine. just delicious, especially with the kind of spicy baby bok choy we had with our pork chops.

12/6/2007 (link)(Syvlie Esmonin Bourgogne Rouge (Pressoniers)) This is from the same vineyard that the Roty Bourgogne Rouge comes from. On day 1 it had a huge waft of vanila oak on the nose and also on the finish but there was good intense sweet ripe fruit and lots of nice acids. The oak though dominated and after around two hours open the wine started to shut down. On day 2 it was significantly better but still had a dark/oaky aspect to it that I did not like. There was not much mineral and earth but loads of dark, sappy sweet confectionary fruit. Very well made but not my style.
