August 28, 2020 - Nice but too advanced, we did a H2H with the Domaine Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Epenots 2005 and the Gros showed brown edges and tasted too advanced. A bit too rustic.

July 15, 2018 - Old raspberry, cranberry, sous bois; medium bodied, good balance, some elegance, reasonably long finish; not exceptionally enticing, and a little muscular, but good

July 29, 2017 - Lovely bottle of burgundy. 1,5 hours decant, evocative nose with red berries, truffle, sous-bois. Nice fruit and decent length while not a powerhouse. Went well with fish bourgignon. Intellectual wine.

February 25, 2017 - Classic Burgundy; a touch of earth but very smooth and drinking very well. My own view is that these 2005s, at least the premier crus are mostly ready to drink notwithstanding some professional advice to keep them forever. Decanting for 1-2 hours works well in my experience to date.

February 24, 2017 - 2 hour decant. Very representative of the vintage. Our last bottle, first we shared with the group. Softer and more balanced than most Pommards, lived up to our previous bottles. Love to find some more.

June 25, 2016 - 25 June 2016 Tasting at Phredd's: 2nd wine of the tasting, leading off the flight of Pinots for the evening, courtesy of da'Knurd's cellar. I splash decanted through a filter then back into the bottle and let slow aerate for about 2 hours before tasting. Beautiful bright red cherries and hints of funk on the nose; classic Burgundy. The bright red cherries carry over on the palate with some sour cherry, tobacco, and toasty oak notes. Nice development in the glass and surprising tanninc structure; we agreed this still had some time left for development. Great length and surprising brightness on the finish as well. Unfortunately my only bottle. Overall: A- (92).

Second Pinot of the night (IMO) and 3rd overall wine of the night, but I am a sucker for old world Pinot.

June 18, 2014 - Very smooth for a Pommard. Lives up to the vintage. Bright garnet, complex nose with cherries and spice. Balanced in the mouth, with cherries (lots of bing cherries), nice acidity, med/long finish. Delightful with grilled salmon.

December 27, 2013 - Lovely, floral nose with some red fruit and a hint of spice. Primarily cranberries on the palate, with some spice and a bit of vanilla. Good mouthfeel, wonderfully complex. Works just to sip, but would pair with a lot of different foods. Decanted about 2 hours. I think this could get even better, but it is drinking wonderfully now.

October 20, 2013 - Almost no nose, and very tannic and almost harsh out of the bottle. We decanted about four hours. After about two, the nose had come alive, but it was still arguing with the palate. We crossed our fingers, and served it with dinner. By then, it had smoothed out. Lots of strawberries and red cherries on the palate, with a pleasant, long finish. It definitely benefitted from the air, and it could get even better with some more time in the bottle.
