    October 2, 2011 - Zweigelt is an interesting Austrian hybrid of Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent. It is not unlike a light Pinot Noir. Clear, light ruby with a hint of purple. The nose has some sulphur which soon blows off. Nose is clean but reticent at first (medium minus). Eventually opens up to medium. The nose seems fully developed. Aromas of black fruit, mineral (stone and earth). The palate is dry, with medium plus acidity. Tannins, alcohol, body and flavor intensity are all medium. It is a little thin and the length is a little short at medium minus. Flavors of black cherry, with a hint of liquorice and bitterness on the finish. Overall, the wine is good and ready to drink now. It could keep for a while longer, but I do not think it would improve much with age.
