  July 5, 2023 - NobleRottersSydney - Henschke (Fix, St James, Sydney): {screwcap, 14.5%} [Stephen] For some reason Henschke seem never to have embraced the cabernet-shiraz blend; this is it in their portfolio. $70-worth. It’s a weird mix of over- and under-ripe grapes, managing to offer all this alcohol while still presenting herb, lemon pepper and a stalky sort of greenness as the main flavours. Medium weight, with medium, faintly gritty tannins, it’s not a wine of much charm. Short/medium length finish. I have one of these left still; maybe a decade in the cellar will help but I’m not confident.

  June 15, 2023 - Deep mulberry red, opaque, unfined. Clean, moderately pronounced nose of black cherry, plum, rose, black pepper, anise, cedar, red earth. Savoury, tart verging on sharp acid, chalky and slightly green tannins, hint of bitterness. Flavours of bitter herbs, plum and a hint of raisin indicating slight over-ripeness, black olive, cocoa powder, earth. Full-bodied, slight alcohol heat. Seems to be very Shiraz dominant, not a lot of Cabernet character. Pleasant enough, but would I buy it again? No.

Blue/black fruit, spice - seemingly shiraz dominant more than the 52/48 ratio v cabernet would lead you to expect. Or at least, that's the initial impression. There is an underlying sense of dark green somewhere between the bouquet and the palate impression. Medium/full weight, although that's mostly due to the alcohol. Lowish acidity, gentle furry tannins. Modern, ripe, semi-sweet flavours. Perfectly fine for drinking now; won't fall over, may not become more interesting with time though.
