February 23, 2021 - First CT note on this wine in about 6 years. My last bottle, like all Lorings, sealed under screwcap. Not sure if it's the closure or the winemaking, but the aging curve on this seems glacial. Very youthful color and nose brimming with baking spice, brown sugar, red plum and cherry, and a hint of cola. For a Loring, the fruit is pretty restrained, with juicy acids, a touch of sweetness, and a dry fairly tannic finish. I'd like it a lot more if it were a bit more elegant and without the rugged tannins, but it certainly exceeded my expectations.

December 1, 2016 - While this displays the tell-tale “Loring Red,” this wine is not at all opaque. The bit of brick on the rim reflects the wine is showing its age. The nose is tart with black cherry, yet reflects the sweetness of a bit of blueberry and the savoriness of rosemary. Cinnamon complements those flavors on the palate, but the alcoholic finish reflects a wine out of balance. The fruit is fading and the wine overall lacks the usual exuberance of Brian’s profile. 14.4% alc. A shadow of sediment coats the inside of the bottle. With roasted pork tenderloin. Recommended with reservations.

September 24, 2015 - Cranberry has now replaced the dark magenta from two years ago. The nose is full with cranberry, bing cherry, black cherry, cinnamon and a touch of blueberry. Asian 5 spice jumps in on the palate as the nose segues to flavors. The mouthfeel is big, bright and full bore Loring. But the mouthfeel and finish lack depth. The heat from the alcohol (14.4% alc.) pushes the wine off balance. This is a wine for fun, not finesse. Not a trace of sediment, contrary to a prior bottle. With broiled pork loin wrapped in pancetta. Recommended.
