June 14, 2021 - 2021 Napa - June 9-12: This was the most open of the wines at dinner—racy, juicy, bold but not big, fruit forward but a nice tannic backbone that carried the wine across the palate. Do not ask whether this is a buy, ask how much to buy!

May 13, 2021 - Napa 2021 Trip; 5/10/2021-5/13/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): Glad Shae brought some of this to pour at the tasting. Engelhard is a Calistoga vineyard previously called Ciminelli which is at the base of the Diamond Mountain AVA between 475 and 575 feet. The only other vineyard/wine I've seen with a vineyard designate making wine is TRB and Hobel Wines.

More red fruit, bright cherry, definitely more floral than the silky/velvety Rhadamanthus and Voleuse served prior. Will be looking to add these to my cellar upon release!

April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): A fun and fruity entry pushes forward with ripe and dark berry fruit that saturates the palate and finishes with a lingering tinge of youthful booze. Less nervy and acidic on initial entry than the Kinsman namesake wines sampled before, this wine still displays the hallmark sophistication and complexity that give Nigel’s wines such allure. This seems like it will be more approachable and affable relatively earlier in its lifespan. Still, a handful of years in bottle is recommended. Nicely done. 95 points.

April 23, 2021 - Yet another up and coming wine with Nigel Kinsman as winemaker. I was fortunate to get a taste before the first vintage is released. You certainly will not be disappointed if you are able to get a few bottles.

I can't remember the exact blend here, but it has a pretty good amount of cab franc if memory serves. The nose was super expressive and gorgeous, with tons of wonderful floral notes complemented by cherries and tobacco. The palate was fresh and vibrant, with grippy tannins and lots of energy. It was fairly approachable for being so young, and showed a lot of personality. This is sure to only get better.

April 22, 2021 - Exploring 2018s and 2019s in Napa - Spring 2021; 4/18/2021-4/22/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): Nigel was telling us about the super tiny fruit that contributed to the extremely intense concentration on this wine. Darker than the Kinsman wines we had in front of us, with lush black cherry, creme de cassis, vanilla, maybe a hint of fennel, and a pleasant salinity/minerality that rounded the palate and brought some liveliness to the wine. Juicy, decadent mouthfeel, with highly structured tannins, tingly acidity, and palpable alcohol. Lots of aging potential here.

Definitely worth getting on the mailing list. I believe the price point was discussed to be relatively high and more expensive than their own label, but damn the wine is good. Wow.
