May 21, 2009 - Agree with previous TN on this, except for their comment about it becoming boring later. This wine was NOT boring later, and seemed to hold up pretty well, actually. I especially liked it's medium-bodied pinot noir-y funkiness. The '02 seems to be drinking well still, though I have no idea about these guys' wines as cellaring investments, nor do I have any other experience with their wines. I've recently spotted them at a roadhouse on the Pacific Coast Highway near the winery in the Santa Cruz mountains, and was curious. Weirdly, a friend of mine gave me this bottle a few nights ago. Trout Gulch have since been bought by Beauregard--not sure what that means in terms of change to this style of winemaking, but I quite liked this one!

Starting to turn the more red brick color of an older wine, light in hue, not terribly opaque, medium in flavor, bright acidity (though never unpleasant) with undertones of cherry and barnyardyness to it that was at first mildly offputting, then grew more appealing, and then turned to downright good as the wine opened up over the course of an hour or so of decant.

January 5, 2009 - Smell: Classic Pinot at first, Diaper, Wet Earth, poopy, Barn smell, Great nose ( This was at first smell, Later this fell off and the nose was boring)

Taste: Tart Bright not a lot of deep flavors, Cherry/Cranberry, tannnin and a hint of Alcohol, (As this opened up it had a bright cheery mouth feel)
