April 9, 2024 - Had this bottle in succession with the same vintage of Leoville Barton. I liked the '19 vintage of Langoa better that the '20 Langoa. This was initially a bit dilute and needed a lot of time for the fruit to emerge. Not as concentrated as the '19. Very primary though in an elegant way. Three days to finish.

February 15, 2024 - 2019 Langoa seems significantly a step above the 2020 Langoa. Not that 2020 Langoa sucks. I rate it a solid 92 points. It is richly inviting St. Julien purple, it just seems a little out of balance compared to the 2019. Maybe it’s just that I tried the two year-apart vintages in the same week and they’re in a slightly different place. To me, the 2019 Langoa epitomizes the flair and personality of that 2019 vintage and that has some of us, myself included, wondering whether it surpasses even the epic 2016 vintage. This 2020 is rich and savory, I thought there was almost a burnt quality to it, I just think it lacked some of the pop and sassiness of the 2019. Who knows. I’ll rate this a solid 92 points, not sure I’ll buy more, I may buy even more of the 2019 if the price is right. Rating: 92 points.

November 17, 2023 - Super fresh red berries, blackcurrant, lovely cedar notes complete the rather welcoming nose. Slightly dilute on the palate but, unlike the Mauvesin, there is a sense of balance. Interesting, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth helps carry the finish, woody tannins offer a slightly coarse burr. Nice

November 11, 2023 - Vintage Wine - Bordeaux Tasting 11/11/23: 13.5% ABV. Deep purple appearance.

Notes of cassis, vanilla, smoke, clove, dark chocolate. Still oak dominated but the fruit will hold up to this. A rich and sexy mouthfeel. Tannins approachable but still resolving. Acidity levels just enough to hold everything together. Finish is prolonged.

I really like the concentration and depth here. Still needs time for the oak to integrate, but this should develop into a great wine that punches above its price point. 94-95 potential.

November 6, 2023 - Deep, dark garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, & dark currants with floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, anise, coffee, herbs, tobacco, mint, graphite, spices & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, gravel, minerals, mocha/cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing (90 min+) & should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (94+). An indicative blend of 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot & 8.5% Cabernet Franc. A lovely wine.

September 13, 2023 - This is so good, especially for the price point. Aromatocally it is quite reflective of Leo Barton here, a delicious complexity of classic dark fruits, a minty tobacco, some nutmeg and cedar nuance clearly showing a bit of fine French oak. On the palate is ripe and juicy but still drying and not overly ripe Nice balance, an excellent wine that should also cellar for many years.

September 9, 2023 - The 2020 iteration of Château Langoa Barton is an opaque crimson blend of 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 8.5% Cabernet Franc, brought up in 60% new French oak barriques. Serially tasted over two hours from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted and allowed four hours in carafe prior to sampling, it offers an intense aromatic array of Montmorency and Bing cherries, crème de cassis, violets, graphite, cedar and pipe tobacco. Medium-to-full-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (13.5%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas and is impressively dense on the mid-palate. The wine's stealth tannins are fine-grained, resulting in a structured yet soft-textured wine that builds on the lengthy finish. With this vintage, Langoa Barton has created its own new benchmark. Already delicious, it will get even better with a bit more time in the cellar. Drink 2028-2050.

    May 9, 2023 - Popped and poured.
Deep purple, very concentrated and inky, nice viscosity and quite slow legs.
The nose is elegant, creamy, dark fruited, smoky, oaky, complex and very St. Julien.
Cassis, crushed blueberries, blackberries, muscovado sugar, burnt tobacco, graphite, boiserie, dark chocolate pralines, moss, peppermint, scorched earth, charred pepper, candied violets.
Mouthwatering acidity, typical minerality that integrates with the structure and impressive concentration.
The wine is dense, beautifully refined and with a medium body. (13,5%)
Very pure dark fruits, graphite, tobacco, earthy and minty long finish.
The tannins are big but already very fine grained and integrated.
This Langoa is already drinking so good and beautiful in its infancy, with a graceful balance, but will need for sure time to express its potential, integrate oak and soften the tannins.
Give it 3 to 5 years at least or keep it in your cellar for decades.
The wine is made of 53.5% Cab. Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 8,5% Cab. Franc, which is aged for 16/18 months in 60% new oak barrels.
