January 2, 2024 - This 2020 Château de Ferrand is a blend of 74% Merlot, 25% Cab Franc and 1% Cab Sauvignon, whose harvest began on the historically early date of September 14. 14,5% abv on the label. It needed 2 good hours in the decanter to open up completely. Freshness is really the key word here, more than on the 2019 vintage drunk recently, and it really caught my wife's attention. The nose exhibits impressive aromatic depth with very fresh scents of leather, damp earth, a dash of licorice, subtle fragrance of roses, shades of raspberries, blueberries and pomegranate, a turn of pepper mill and chalky minerality. It hits the palate with medium-bodied fresh richness and satin-like texture. It offers layer upon layer of dark and purple fruits, earthy nuances and aromatic plants (coriander?), finishing with a great racy chalky length and some still a bit grippy tannins. Oak is barely detectable despite youth. Seriously good wine enjoyed with a duck breast stuffed with foie gras. Amazing combo! Will obviously be better with more age but yet surprisingly attractive right now. De Ferrand is definitely a hot property in recent years in St-Emilion and you have to watch it closely.

November 18, 2023 - Langtons Bordeaux 2020 Arrival Tasting (Sydney, Australia): Dry and lacking character and appeal

November 17, 2023 - Medium minus intensity aromas of black over red plums, sweet spice, polished oak, a little clay. Slightly sour red plum, sweet spice, grippy tannins dry the gums and cheeks, it's a bit out of whack and lacking in generosity for me. Nah.

September 11, 2023 - St. Emilion Grand Cru Classés Walkaround tasting, so just short notes (Amsterdam): The 2020 blend consists of 74% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate and in the bouquet a rich wine, full bodied with good acidity and sticky tannin. Good length. 90 - 93,
