    February 18, 2023 - Still a wonderful Napa CS.

November 26, 2022 - 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (J&L's): Slightly corked, which is a shame because there's a little bit of fruit poking through on the palate, at least while we are working through this flight. (V&M)

October 22, 2022 - Popped and waited about an hour and a half before first tasting. Brilliantly complex aromas explode from the glass with fresh and dark cherries initially leading the charge along with a prominent dark cocoa, some graphite and some floral and herbal notes. Palate is fresh fruit driven with echoes of the complex nose. Went in for another round of tasting after waiting a bit (it's now about 6 hours after pop): aromas are slightly more subdued, however the palate has evolved to where you can find black licorice deftly woven in as well as eucalyptus with hints of mint and menthol. Overall: mild tannins and medium body for a cab with a nice, medium finish that trails with tart cherry. I found this vintage to be fresher, more accessible and more open than the 2016, which I opened 8 to 9 months ago. Unfortunately, this 2017 is also less deep and less broodingly dark than the 2016. *85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. *An article on the Hoopes website regarding potential smoke taint in this 2017 vintage had me hunting for off notes, but I found the whole package very appealing with nothing wrong. Apparently much of the 2017 harvest was discarded and only select barrels made it through production.

April 11, 2022 - Very nice Cab, excellent QPR, dark fruit, currants, blackberry on the nose, well integrated tannins, long finish, lacks a little on the backbone.

January 23, 2022 - Needs 5 more years. Very nice, but young needs some aging.
