May 24, 2019 - 5th of 36, pnp, perfect cork and level, more slimmed down and leaner than December bottle, possibly more fragrant and with more Graves typicity, cool fruit for vintage, maybe heading for a dumb phase, 20+ years life and scope for upgrade. F (17.5).

March 8, 2019 - aromas of cherry, plum and eucalyptus tree, quite upfront, with ripe flavors of red berries, plum, tobacco and graphite enveloping the palate, drinking well now, shows the warmth of the vintage with class and elegance, not quite jammy but flirting with ripeness, overall delicious and ready to go

Peu encore tenir longtemps.

December 22, 2018 - 4th of 36, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, little changed from September bottle, higher on pleasure than technical mark, cool and balanced for an 03 and preferred by me on night to slightly over-sized Pavie 98. F (17.5).

September 2, 2018 - 3rd of 36, pnp, perfect cork and level, little change from last couple of bottles. Fine (17.5) drinking well now, if at the primary end of the drinking window and nicer for drinking today than my other grander clarets of the weekend from the 96 vintage which were relatively closed and, particularly in the case of LLC, hard work!

(Domaine de Chevalier (Pessac-Léognan)) A dark hue, a dusty red, not at all suggestive of advanced maturity. The nose has a remarkably dark, exotic and spicy character with a roasted edge which reminds me briefly of some of the wines from the 1990 vintage. Spicy roasted meats, plum skins, with charcoal and a hint of mint as well. Very supple and rich on entry, broad and fleshy, substantial, certainly rather seductive and pleasing, and there is some acidity at the very tip of the palate as well, although it keeps a very low profile through to the finish. What gives more structure is the layer of tannins, ripe and firm, supporting the rich but well-framed layer of black fruit and pepper character. I must confess I find it all very charming and appealing, and certainly approachable now, although the lack of a vibrant cut of acid will put some off I guess.

(Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan) A subtle and yet rather exotic character to the nose here, with a peppery quality. There is finesse here; this has an elegant style on the palate, with just a creamy edge to it. There are firm, rather masculine tannins although quite well knitted into the structure of the wine. Very firm, appealing style which has been really well assembled. Lots of potential here.
