September 14, 2023 - (SYP) unbranded cork. Opened 1 hour before serving.
Restrained nose, with a hint of blackberries, some herbaceous notes, syrup, earth and pepper. It has a touch of warmth on the palate but also quite fresh and ripe. The finish is chewy and dry. -

August 12, 2021 - More like a Hunter than Clare shiraz. And as if it were under screwcap. Remarkably fresh, blackberry, medium bodied.
Will last.
13.5%, cork. -

July 9, 2021 - A difficult vintage in a long drought cycle, this wine in that context exceeded my expectations. It needed to be decanted well in advance (like a good 3 hours) but once opened, it was a true Wendouree - power, gracefulness, concentration and silkiness. Very mocha / chocolate, it had lovely dark fruits and refined acid. Tannin was fine to medium but very alive and a constant sidekick. A wonderful structured finish.
Drink now to 15+ years. -

August 28, 2020 - Event: 20 years of Wendouree Shiraz. Eucalyptus, mint. Not quite as good as ‘04. Needs more time to air. Advise minimum decant 2-3 hours. Drink now to 2025.

July 12, 2019 - On the heels of the impressive 05 Pressings last weekend, this looks more stylish than when last tasted, and to have overcome its hot vintage birth. Maturing colour with more brick/brown fade than the two 05 blends.
No mistaking the initial walnut/seaweed nose with mustard seed. Later more fragrant blue fruits and blackberry coulis, a of hint liquorice, leather and mint.
Palate leans more to the Pressings than Shiraz/Malbec from 05, with a finer seam, medium body. Started lighter than the two blends (perhaps akin to the experience of the other two TNs for 2019), almost Chianti-like back palate with fresh acid. But in typical Wendouree fashion, expanded by night two to show more depth, a flavour-spectrum across the palate, and fine but clinging tannin. If you let it open up, this will satisfy. Another good 5-10 years.
