Community Tasting Notes 16

December 28, 2021 - Echoing some of the notes below, this is quite tasty but requires a health decant (1.5-2 hours) at this point to settle down a bit. Initially, the alcohol and acid featured too prominently but ebbed with time. This is certainly a food wine (we had it with baked ziti).

This bottle has a dark-fruited nose and palate -- plum, blackberry and pepper with licorice on the finish.

December 23, 2021 - On the nose- Dark fruits, red fruits, dark blueberries, blackberries, dark ripe cherry, raspberry jam, fig jam, dried herbs, violets, baking spices, black pepper

On the palate- Dark fruits and red fruits, dark blueberries and blackberries, dark ripe cherry and raspberry jam, fig jam and dried herbs, violets and baking spices with a hint of black pepper on the finish. This wine is drinking KILLER young with an hour and a half decant to let it really open up and show its stuff. I see this being able to age another 7-10 years if not longer with no real problem at all.

December 21, 2021 - Zippy, definitely a racy based version using vintage Cali field blends.
Alcohol does creep in a bit at the end, fleetingly, as the acidity creates a lingering finish. Great with garlic bruschetta as it cuts right through.
My 2nd bottle will follow fairly soon, maybe best enjoyed as young & brash, before everything integrates. Enjoyed it on the fly w/meatballs. 1 of 2

December 4, 2021 - Probably too early, but this vintage is not on the same level as the last few at this point. Thinner and a bit more savory than usual. There is still a lot here for the price point but for now at least this is suffering in comparison to its usual standard. Will try to forget my remaining bottles for six months.

November 26, 2021 - Way better than our first bottle.
Peppery plum, fig, maybe a touch of anise. A bit of alcohol on the finish.
Not as good as the ‘19 or the ‘16, but a good value.
