September 24, 2021 - outstanding with just a bit of air. Well balanced with the tertiary elements coming along while the fruit is hanging on.

September 4, 2021 - Fully mature this was my last bottle, and it went out with a bang with everything integrated and full secondary and tertiary characteristics present. This was hammered by RP in his last edition in 2003 and only given 87 points. However, it had a cinderella moment a decade ago and transformed into a beauty. The nose is gloriously deep with dark berry fruits, cedar and old leather. Likewise the palate is deep and the tannin is sweet. The finish is not quite up there with the rest of the experience and I think over age is starting to creep in. I personally do not feel this is a wine for the long haul, but well stored bottles should continue to give enjoyment for a few years.

August 29, 2021 - My last bottle and in great shape. No mustiness at all as with earlier bottles. Not as dark in color or intense as my last bottle, but still plenty of life. Plummy fruit, still grippy tannins, plenty of acid, tobacco and leather notes on the nose and palate. Great with lamb and also on its own with a book! If it weren’t summer it would be the perfect sit by the fire and sip while you read wine…

August 23, 2021 - The accent here is on class and finesse. It is cool fruited with classical cigar box, cedar and lead pencil it finishes beautifully with such precision. Another wine which will not repay keeping but delivers enormous pleasure right now.

August 23, 2021 - 89/90 Bordeaux @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Consistent with a bottle five years ago. Classic claret. Lovely line. More elegant and complex than the Phelan. Nicely mature, just a lovely drink now. The right balance of maturity, vitality and sheer drinkability. ****1/2
