June 13, 2015 - Opened up nicely. Poured through Vinturi. Nice and smooth.

February 24, 2013 - PnVnD. Started consuming after 20 minutes in decanter. Generally consistent with my prior notes. With reasonable time to acclimate after aeration this is an enjoyable and approachable offering. Not dark and brooding, but open and expressive. Earthy nose; taste is more towards stone fruits persisting through mid-palate, with sufficient tannins and heat to suggest this might have some life left. Rated "good" (83-85).

October 24, 2012 - Popped and poured several ounces into two glasses - one straight from the bottle and one through a vinturi. Based on comparison I PnVed the remainder of the bottle into a decanter and let it settle down for about 15 minutes. Consumed over the next four hours with a dinner of spicy beef and bean burritos.
Garnet color. nose is earthy, with elements of cedar, new leather, and red fruits. On the palate red fruits come out from the start, with just a bit of bite and acidity. Flavors sustained through mid-palate, with a bit of tannin coming on board later. Not deeply structured, but with a strong vibrant fruitiness. Easy to drink. Not a good pairing with the burritos (for which a beer would probably have been a much better choice). The spiciness of the burritos simply overwhelmed the wine.
Overall a good versatile wine. Another great QPR from WTSO at ~ $10/bottle shipped. If it shows up again at this price I'll probably be in for more. Rated good (82-84). -

October 18, 2012 - Meh. Oriel ought be careful for fear of impugning their hundreds of varietals under one name. However, much better on the second night, still not that good. Comparable: Melky Cabrera.
