October 27, 2023 - Ojai Food + Wine Festival; 10/26/2023-10/29/2023 (Ojai Valley Inn): The greatness that I have come to expect from an Allemand Reynard. Awesome juice.

January 15, 2023 - Restrained, with muted fruit, but a fair dose of smoke and game. Dark fruit on the palate, ripe acidity, soft tannins. This could need more time but I also see notes going back over four years calling the wine restrained and wondering when the 2001 will emerge from a dull period and you have to ask if it ever will or if this is the wine as it is. Good enough but not what you hope for with Allemand.

September 20, 2022 - Oak, smoked meats, and plum bouquet. Still a little young! Powerful, slightly rustic wine. Still has some residual tannins, even now. Long, long finish. Take no prisoners Syrah!

October 8, 2019 - Allemand Survey (Sepia): More brooding, darker and smokier than the 01 Chaillot tasted side-by-side. Deep aromas that are less precise with stem and herbal fruit. Palate is similarly bigger and chunkier with black fruit that sports a smoky and stemmy profile. Big and a touch clipped given its more substantial stature.

October 8, 2019 - A Survey of Allemand (Chicago, IL): Pretty consistent with my previous note, this is a dark and burly rendition of Allemand. The nose initially has a little mushroom and stinky funk, but the purity of the black fruit starts shining through with some air. Versus the more red-toned 2001 Chaillot, I think this wine still has some ways to go as far as maturity; for drinking now, I preferred the Chaillot. In particular, this still feels a little clamped, with tannins that are still a touch grainy and not yet fully resolved. I reckon that this needs a few more years.
