March 14, 2024 - Stewed dark fruits, menthol and licorice on the palate, meatiness, slight hint of orange. Few tannins left and structure starting to tilt toward flabby (but not there yet). Drink up.
December 30, 2019 - Could be one of the best wines of 2019
September 10, 2019 - What a shame....
March 25, 2019 - Wow, this wine is just in a good place right now.
January 5, 2019 - generous aromas show beautiful scents of mint, blackberry and tobacco, rich and generous on the palate, super soft, oozes with ripe blue fruit, racy raspberry, dried strawberries, smoke, cranberry and mineral, this is in a perfect spot right now, fruit forward and offering handfuls of complexity, delicious, can be enjoyed without food, from ex-cellar sale
July 6, 2018 - A little black olive up front gives way to currants and blackberries. Finishes with a hint of tar.
November 13, 2016 - strong uplifting nose of tabasco and stewed fruits. There is a slight bitterness in the mid palate, which then opens to some more fruit. There is a stewed quality to the fruit, with a bit of the tabasco/capsicum lifting at the end. Not overly complex. This is pleasant enough but still not my cup of tea I think. 88
A day later, this is improving. There is some more structure, even a bit of tannin that emerges. I find these wines very confusing -- I would not have thought it would get better after a day, but it did. On day 2 I would say a 90.
July 25, 2015 - pluns an currants with a little spice on the finish
April 6, 2015 - Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Red fruits, mint and a healthy dose of leather on the nose. Medium body with stronger than expected acidity. Cherries, crème de cassis, plums and graphite on the palate. Silky, fine grained tannins on an exceptional finish. Great showing from one of the under appreciated wines in the Cayuse lineup. Drink over the next 2-4 years.
November 30, 2013 - The least-standard Cayuse I've had yet. Nary the typical rocks & funk in this go around, although that profile began to emerge as I finished it off on night #2. The 2005 Camaspelo was a hot mess compared to this ... yes certainly more intriguing with its mashed-up ways, but not as elegant as the 2006 here. This has quite a few years left in it.
