February 2, 2024 - Tastes like Loire valley cab franc from a warm vintage. It tastes very young, but that is not a bad thing. Better on day 2 than day 1.

It has a lovely nose that follows through harmoniously on the palate. Blackberry, red bell pepper, tomato leaf, cracked black peppercorn, and something like tamari. Dry. Medium+ body. Ample acidity and a lot of tannins. Almost opaque in the glass. A great example of an unmanipulated, characterful wine with tons of flavor. A very enjoyable wine if and only if you are okay with tannins. And I'm okay with tannnins!

I recommend decanting. Drink slightly chilled.

November 18, 2023 - Wow!! What a surprise. This is a delicious wine. Paired great with bone-in Korobuta pork chops, wild rice, and a mixed green salad. Smooth, with great fruit, and a wonderful finish. The wine made us linger a bit before we headed to the Commonwealth Room to soak in the New Pornographers concert, which was great!! A wonderful wine for a rainy, fun, Fall night.

April 7, 2023 - Nowhere near ready. As David Paris suggests in his note below, this really needs 5-10 years. Lots of stuffing but too wound up in itself right now. In fairness, in my 12ish years of experience with this producer, I never enjoy the wines much until they have a few more years in bottle. It's a funny thing, as typically when a wine is too young it's either too fruity or too tannic or showing too much wood. This isn't any of those things, it simply feels like it needs time to unwind and gain a bit of balance. I'm sure it will come.

October 30, 2022 - Holy cow, is this wine intense this vintage! I found the 2018 rendition of the Domaine absolutely sublime and beautiful, drinking so elegantly, soft, pretty, and fruity. This is NOT that. I could tell on first pour, as it feels thick in the glass, with an impenetrable darkness to the color. Also this wine has quite a bit of sediment in my very first pour; something I haven't experienced with prior vintages. The nose is brooding, but still pretty, showing elegance even if the aromas are of tar, graphite, stones, and blackberry seeds. The palate is where this gets intense. Thick and viscous in the mouth, but tannins very quickly build and it's coupled with deep, dark heavy fruits. As it stays in the mouth it gets more intense, with some puckering acid and bitterness building. The finish dials that intensity up even more, showing ripping gritty tannins and acidity, a mouth full of drying earth dust, with just slight bits of fruit poking through. Indeed, this is incredibly rustic and dry; an absolute brut this vintage. The stuffing is definitely there for this to soften and become a beauty... this is just a different vintage than I've ever experienced of the wine. I'll drink my 2018 Domaines while I let this rest for at least 5 years, but more than likely, 10+.

September 10, 2022 - Powerful and dense aromas of black fruit, almost liquor-like, and also a sense of stone and soil. There is real richness and density to this wine, but at 12.5% it’s balanced and drinkable, if not refreshing and lively. It’s good wine that’s better with food than it is on its own.
