August 11, 2022 - Initially hit with fresh cherry/strawberry that is eventually balanced with darker fruits. Then comes some herbal elements and a little funk.

    Medium minus tannin and acid.

I have very little experience with Lambrusco, but this is delicious and well executed. Great chilled, but has enough complexity to be enjoyed closer to 60 degrees.

September 27, 2021 - Easy going. Quite tannic on it's own, cries for a food match.

August 27, 2021 - The Rosso is the classic and the flagship of Vanni Nizzoli. It is a Lambrusco entirely in the tradition, produced with the local varieties Lambrusco Grasparossa (75-80%), Malbo Gentile and Marzemino. The vines, more than 30 years old, come from clayey soils rich in silica.

After hand harvesting into small crates, the grapes were destemmed and fermented for ten days in old oak and chestnut barrels on the skins. This was followed by aging in cement for six months. Finally, the wine was bottled with the juice still unfermented for the second fermentation. The wine was left on the lees for eight months. There was no fining, no filtering, no sulfur addition and no dosage. Total sulfur is less than 10 mg.

Vivid purple red with light perlage.

This Lambrusco opens with a reductive note complete with flinty aromatics. A little swirling in the glass helps, and then the first fruit aromas of elderberries and blackberries break through. They are accompanied by herbs, forest floor, damp moss, underbrush and a slightly sweet note of fresh yeast. This is country wine in the most original definition of the word.

This rustic astringency and in a wonderful and honest way down to earth is shown by the Cinque Campi Rosso on the palate. Dry is the wine. It offers structure and an almost rough texture, aromatics of dark fruits, of seeds, herbs and dry earth. The clear tension, the pressure of the fresh acidity and the minerality combine to provide juice and freshness, further supported by the lively perlage. This is a real buddy on any table where a good snack is served or a country Italian cuisine.
