June 9, 2023 - This was a real eye opener. 2018 Pierre Graffeuille et Matthieu Dumarcher Odyssée, which is a blend of Bordeaux Cab Sav and CNdP Grenache. Great nose, fruit full middle, and enough tannin to tempt a ten year rest. I decanted for an hour, and it was improving all the way through the next hour until.....we finished it. I have some 2019 and am now going to add some 2018s.

March 17, 2023 - Decanted for an hour prior to drinking. I wanted to try this out before potentially acquiring more. Big wafts of fruit on the nose, a combination of dark and red fruit on the palate, leaning towards more red fruit and a solid backbone of tannin at this stage (perhaps the Cabernet). Rhone lovers might consider this wine. I don't have the experience to predict the future on wine development, but this seems to have so much underlying the the tannin (which is not off the chart), that I can only surmise it will be wonderful in a few years. I would invest in this.

February 12, 2023 - Nice bottle of wine - didn't take notes. Not a re-buy for me and likely young in it's evolution.

January 21, 2023 - Regular dinner group (@ My place): This is a note about bottle 3775 of 8112 bottles produced. A very special “vin de France” made of Cabernet from Haut Medoc, Grenache from the southern Rhone and some local Counoise. The result is a beautiful and fruity wine with primary dark berries in the bouquet. On the palate youthful dark berries, beautiful acidity, supple and round, powerful tannin and a great length. Delicious and excellent wine with a good future. 94+

December 16, 2022 - I really liked this, it's a super unique and adventurous Bordeaux - Rhone blend of 61% Cab Sauv, 32% Grenache and 7% Counoise.

Red cherry on the nose, fresh and lively blackcurrant and plum on the palate. Good structure and yet tannins were rounded and enticing softness too.

Amazing that only 8,112 bottles were ever produced, and I have to say that this must rank top of the most unique wines in my cellar!

Revival of the tradition of blending the wines from Bordeaux and Rhône. History: In the 16th to early 19th centuries, Médoc wines were often blended with a small proportion of Syrah from Hermitage for more structure and colour.

In this case.. its Grenache, one of my favourite varietals. Odyssée comes from a blending partner of Grenache from Southern Rhône. This helped soften the tannin and acidity inherent to Cabernet Sauvignon, and contributed notes of bright red fruits and Mediterranean herbs.

Shared this with the lads at our Blinded Bottles night with the theme "No crap wines!", at Copaa in Hartamas.

A pet project of Pierre Graffeuille, the managing director of Château Léoville Las Cases, with Matthieu Dumarcher, an emerging oenologist who operates a tiny five-hectare estate according to organic principles.

Wine was produced North of Avignon and has a humble vin de france designation, because appellation rules forbid such kind of cross-regional blending.

Well worth paying USD 45 for this if one could ever find one.. Grateful for Tong Woh to bring this in!
