August 12, 2023 - I thought this was lovely - quite delicate but with a nice balance to it - and should be good for quite a few years yet

March 1, 2023 - NobleRottersSydney - German night (Fix, St James, Sydney): {375ml, cork, 6.5%, AP 72 12} Research tells me this is 150g/l of residual sugar, and comes largely from the Bernkastler Lay vineyard. It tastes a lot sweeter than that; it’s honey nectar in a glass, and yet it’s only light/medium in weight. There’s a luscious intensity to the palate, a luminous glow of sweetness, and I think the medium/long finish is only compromised by the acidity being a little low – this also explains the seeming sweetness. So, it’s a lovely wine, and it was great that Loosen made so much of this available as a comparatively affordable price. I suspect the 187ml bottles might be on the downslope though!

January 17, 2021 - More evolved than would have expected. Deep yellow, golden color. Well balanced between sweetness & acid, not overly sweet. Medium bodied, was expecting fuller body given the sweet nose and color.

December 26, 2020 - This is excellent. Pure golden color with a very pure botrytis dominated nose. The nose is youthful and currently lacking in secondary notes. The palate is similarly pure with bright fruit driven extract. Medium bodied for a Beerenauslese with a good (but not special) finish. There is a lot to like here but note there is little nuance or complexity. Excellent QPR but not special. (90)

September 27, 2020 - A Cappella at Martin’s: Plastic, quince, medicinal, yellow plums, black tea, candied sugar, medium sweet and medium length, slightly lacking acidity

(LOOSEN BA) Friday SPECIAL #2 - Quarter Dear Friends, This was just finalized and it’s a perfect way to end the week - dessert wine in quarter bottles. I would never usually consider a wine in this size but, with BA, it makes a lot of sense and this is just a great buy. So much so, that I have a sneaking suspicion many of you will want to stock up on these little gems - they make for great gifts any time of the year. This is one of those opportunities where buying in quantity will allow you to do an interesting experiment over the next 10-20 years (or more) - it would be very interesting to watch this evolve by opening one of these every year for the next 24 (if you are that disciplined). You could also give them as gifts over the next ten years and the wine should still be fresh and youthful (not to mention the price - this was contracted when the Euro was at 1.28 - you can do the math at today’s 1.56). From one of the finest high-pradikat vintages since 1976, Loosen’s 2006 BA is one of the more versatile little bottles of wine I’ve come across - use them as stocking stuffers, bribes, sneak them into restaurants - whatever you do, there’s more than enough for two to enjoy (or even four, if you are light-handed) - who needs a 375ml when you can have this for low price? As a vintage, 2006 will be remembered in the Mosel for its Auslese, BA and TBA and we get so many requests for well-priced dessert wine that this offer fills a much needed void for a large percentage of you. Most of us rarely want to open a large bottle of dessert wine, but a small bottle of BA is another story but they are just so hard to find in this quarter/187ml format. With only 7.5% alcohol, beautiful natural acidity and flavor impact to burn, this is a standout in any crowd. It is not a syrupy sweet mess, it is a complete wine with a bright, citric quality and a deft elegance to buffer the huge residual sweetness. Outstanding. I urge you to look up the IWC’s comments on Dr. Loosen’s 2006 portfolio (the scores are off the wall) but Julia Harding MW (Jancis Robinson’s lead taster) sums this wine up perfectly with a new word “liquidised”. Wine and Spirits also just reviewed this and gave it 94 or 95pts as well. In other words, it’s a pretty amazing little wine. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for fabulous quality and a format size that should be utilized more often for dessert wines. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the source: 2006 Dr. Loosen Riesling Beerenauslese (BA) 187ml (if we run out, Vinopolis in Portland also has a few bottles of this) FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 24/person until we run out (24 x 187ml equals 6 regular bottles) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Germ7720
