October 6, 2023 - This is an interesting wine. Very closed nose on pop and pour, so let the wine hang out in the decanter for a good four hours. It opened a bit, but the aromas are different than most WV Pinot. Its more subtle and you really need to take your time with this wine. First, it’s much more savory than fruity. In fact, there’s little fruit here at all on the nose. I’m getting Asian five spice and burned orange peel. On the palette it continues with the savory elements- definitely some stem inclusion here, the five spice is present along with some soy sauce-like umami notes. I ended up pairing this with a Thai pad ka prow, and it was a great match. There’s a good balance to the wine, with acid and tannin both present but never overpowering. I like the wine, a lot. And it’s unlike most other Oregon wines - not sure if that’s a function of the site or the clone, or, more likely both!

June 23, 2023 - I’m fascinated by the Wadensvil clone of Pinot Noir. There’s a savory element to them that seems to appear regardless of site. As a fan of savory I am hooked. This medium bodied Pinot shows elegant black cherry fruit, as well as a deep, loamy earthiness that provides an anchor, and a fresh, herbal top note that carries freshness. The extra gear comes in with a dash of soy umami on the finish. It’s not dominant, just an extra layer of seasoning. As usual, it’s a fascinating expression of Wadensvil.

May 20, 2023 - Quite fragrant with a whole cluster character along with black cherry fruit. Fine palate, hint of tannin along with fresh fruit. Finishes long, with a hint of refreshing bitterness along with blood orange and spice notes. Love the elegance and freshness but could still use some time to knit together.

April 12, 2023 - This is a very nice pinot noir. Red fruit on the nose, a palate of red berries, cherry, sweet pipe tobacco and hints of spice leading to a moderately long finish. Half the bottle was used in cooking and the other half went on the dinner table. So it was put up against the bottle of Aubert that we were having for dinner. It surprisingly held its own.
