October 2, 2023 - If wishes were horses, you could drink 2005s. Hold. Good with marinated quail, but needs 3-5 years? Fruit is there within all that extraction, but I’d perfer more resolved tannins and some tertiary development. Certainly drinkable, but I’d still hold, which sounds a little nuts at 23 years on from the vintage.

January 31, 2020 - Delicious right now, not tired at all. Popped and poured - tons of fruit left and just a touch of secondary development. 2005s from good producers are just amazing.

June 6, 2014 - Wine decanted 12 hours prior to drinking on Day 1.

Color: Clear cherry red in appearance and fairly deep for a simple bourgogne rouge.

Nose: Red fruits with pretty floral notes. Also detecting spice and clove and with more swirling in the glass the smell becomes more inviting. Very Good indeed.

Taste on Day 1: Very nice Vosne like taste and flavors with mostly a red berry profile. Can still taste the acids on the finish as this is a light body bourgogne (relative to the 2005 vintage) and is really starting to drink nicely now. This has less depth, body and intensity compared to the recently consumed Barthod 05 Bourgogne but there is a very pretty feminine quality to the wine that draws you in to re sip. This wine wins you over with grace and charm and is very well balanced (as I would expect from Cathiard). Will likely improve with a few more years of bottle age and hold for at least 5 more. Rated 89 now and looking forward for the 2nd day changes.

Taste on Day 2: Fuller mouth feel and rounder overall. Definitely improved with less acid on the finish and more lush red fruit. Drinks way above most Bourgogne rouges I have tried and is a out-performer for it's level with beautiful balance and seductive fruit that makes this wine a winner.

December 15, 2013 - partner mtg at my house, this was light bodied through the night, on pnp it seemed shut down (as are many of my '05's), it did open up a bit after two hours and showed some red berry and some light spice with good acid, food wine this point and feels like it will always be, not rich or fruity in any way, fruit may emerge with cellaring but this will always be light bodied in my view, saw my prior note re oak but this one wasn't showing any to speak of

September 16, 2012 - feels like an awkward phase, nose was reserved, palate showed lots of material, crisp acidity, cherry / sour cherry with some medicinal notes, a little tart / bitter and some oak showing... hope this is just a sleepy phase, will wait several years on my second and last bottle

June 6, 2011 - Beautiful Bourgogne. Ruby red in color. Nice nose of cherry, earth and minerality. Initial hit of sweet cherry fruit on the palate with follow-up of earth and licorice. Went well with marinated london broil on the grill. Drinks at a higher level which may be due to a combination of the producer and vintage.

March 12, 2010 - Superb bourgogne, easily achieving the "level up" status of most '05's. I wasn't sure what to expect in the way of its being open for business, but hey, it's a bourgogne, are you trying to say it could be shut down? Warm ruby color, nose a beguiling mix of ripe cherry and an engaging woodsy note with minerals in the background, somehow reminds me of summer camp? Medium bodied but with that '05 roundness and seamless quality from beginning to end, and the finish here has sweet pinot fruit that's like a promise of better things yet to come. I think this will improve over the next two years because the fruit will be even a little more prominent across the palate but no regrets tonight. Just 12.5% alcohol if you can believe the label.

April 12, 2009 - day 1 - this is closing down...unusual for a bourgogne but it is 05 and Cathiard makes a supeior one in my experience...let others sleep for another year or two...recorked half full and placed in cellar
day 2 - ok, more like it...spice and red fruit on nose plus a hint of oak...covers the palate with nice balance...precise...very structured for bourgogne...good length...exceeds its class ranking

August 30, 2008 - Spice, pepper, cherry red and black on the nose with sous-bois in the background. Nice fruit on the palate with intensity and linearity. Long finish. Great bourgogne at a great price. It will probably age for a couple of years at least. Just a different level from other bourgognes.
