February 6, 2008 - couldn't resist the discounted price. since this is a wonderful producer, i don't want to be too critical. however, it is clear that this wine was meant to be consumed much younger. for john cleese fans, i share the memory of the snooty hotel guest who demanded a bottle of aloxe-corton to have with dinner and the antics basil went through when he couldn't produce one. i suspect that this wine is being re-released by the producer since i see the 1999 vintage currently being offered to the wholesale channel. this wine showed just the slightest hint of oxidation that blew off after 10 minutes. however, the fruit is masked by the taste of wet newspaper. will look for younger vintages to learn what this wine is supposed to be like.
