Community Tasting Notes 9

April 5, 2009 - Wow. Is the same wine I drank twice before, and like both times? Have my tastes changed, or is this bottle showing poorly? I thought this was really fairly poor. Overoaked to the point of wood resiny bitterness, sacharin sweet and sappy. I would have picked this as Yellowtail. Go figure.

August 31, 2008 - Drank this at Explorator in Indianapolis. With sashimi, oysters and clams. Just wonderful. Pale gold, beautiful nose with pears, spice, apples. Soft but structured. Very generous on the finish. For $32 this is a Chardonnay to seek out. Drinks far better than those twice as expensive.

July 21, 2008 - Tart, with dark earthy fruit. Very nice.

November 11, 2007 - Very well made bottle of chardonnay. Beautiful pale straw color, nose of pears, spice. Front palette richness, spice, oak, weakens a bit mid-palette oak becomes more pronounced. Nice long finish, rich finish. Better as it warms. Drinking wonderfully now.Similar to Martinelli.

November 3, 2007 - There may be some who don't love this style but I can't imagine anyone not recognizing how well this wine is made. Pear and butterscotch on the nose both of which continue on the long, silky, seamless finish. Oak definitely makes itself known but stays in check. Butter component is a little high for my taste but it is not a sickening or butter flavor by any means.

(FORT ROSS CHARDONNAY) #1; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-good amount of Oak, Mint leaves w/ butter; TASTE-subtle Oak, beautiful butter integration, nice pear component; a great Blast on the attack, mid-palate is structured & refined like a classic White Burgundy and then an elegant, explosive, long, rich, mouth coating, silky finish; this is an exceptional effort; WS-93; GV-93
