January 7, 2023 - Saw this on WineBid for $20 a while back and couldn’t resist. Wanted to see what Meiomi used to be like.
Cork was in perfect condition and came out with ease with the Durand. Medium dark garnet in color with some bricking on the edge.
From the nose, it appears to be over the hill – wet tomato leaf, wet tobacco leaf, wet pine needles, and stale spices.
Medium bodied, integrated, lively acidity, and a bit of sweetness in that 4-6g/l range. Upon the first sip, I was presented with something very complex and alive. Stewed and fresh cherries, plums, dried raspberries, wet leather, dried strawberries, toasted oak driven smoke, fresh tobacco leaf, a hint of milk chocolate, and assorted sweet baking spices. Still a decent amount of tannic structure that really helps elevate the wine. Long finish of cola (In a good way), limestone, saline, tobacco leaf, black pepper, and nutmeg. There’s a lasting finish of pine needle, toasted nuts, and juniper finish that coats the mouth after a glass.
Wow! This is good. The palate keeps developing with time open. It proves to me Meiomi used to be a quality wine before they sold the brand away. This has aged well and might be a bit past its prime. I personally think I would have enjoyed this more a 5 years ago with a bit more freshness in the fruits. The nose is the only reason why I am not rating this higher.
August 2, 2012 - cherry and smooth. not complex. good - but clearly not outstanding
February 17, 2012 - I drank it past its prime, but it was still pretty smooth and delicious. Drank it after dinner, not with, and is just fine on its own.
March 19, 2011 - pleasantly surprised. great balance of red fruit and oak. nice finish. drank right away-no aeration needed.
October 17, 2009 - excellent, inexpensive pinot. balanced and mellow.
September 26, 2009 - Was good by itself but overpowered by a meal that included balsamic vinegar. Not overly complex but smooth and enjoyable.
August 28, 2009 - Smooth ...
August 28, 2009 - Delicious, smooth tanins long finish
May 15, 2009 - Decanted 30 minutes. Nice fruity nose, lotts a cherry. Still a fruit bomb on the nose but drank well. Still tannic but not acdic. I have 9 more but will wait a full year before I try again. Stil the perfect wine to serve if you want to impress a group of non experienced wine drinkers.
May 12, 2009 - Love the single vineyard Belle Glos, but while this one was pleasant, it's less distinctive and there are better things out there at $25 (think Chehalem 3 Vineyard).
