Community Tasting Notes 12

September 17, 2015 - Stood upright and opened around an hour before drinking, decanted about half an hour before. It's pretty consistent with the last bottle opened perhaps 6 months ago. A little medicinal to taste, and with that slightly burnt rubbery smell. It has got dark fruit, cherries, but it is a little sharp and disjointed, not resolving particularly well. It has a long after taste, and is quite hot still, not wearing it's alcohol content particularly well. It's trying to be a big blockbuster shiraz, but it doesn't work for me. I'm not a huge fan of the style to be honest and rather wish I didn't have another dozen bottles in the cellar.

October 7, 2014 - Wow, what a contrast and confusing matter...... Previous reviews, mine and couple others below, all noted and agreed the Homer Simpson style vodka cranberry juice style wine, which for me eased over a good 6 hour or so long decant. However this bottle, and my mates confirmed so to their previous bottle a week or so ago, seems to have hit a purple patch and a completely different experience.
Good fruit driven shiraz, dark berries, generous mouth coating, good weighting and medium finish. Dunno what is going on but drink now if your bottles have hit this patch.

June 29, 2014 - From DM, surprisingly fresh at 15,5%, fruity and smooth, excellent choice for BBQ, does not need further cellaring or long decanting

April 12, 2014 - Previous punter's tasting notes below duly noted and taken onboard. Completely agree upon opening the Homer Simpson vodka winemaking was evident, quite an atrocious smell really. 6 hours later the heat has worn off, notes are damp and of redcurrant. Tastes of menthol or alcohol or something, possibility a tad bitter too, I dunno, am confused, this isnt the Two Hands quality I have come to enjoy. I still have 3 more of these, lucky Mother's Day is around the corner....

February 2, 2014 - This is my fourth Deer in Headlights 2005. The first three smelled and tasted like vodka and black currant juice, but not that fancy Vodka that has been double distilled and triple filtered through crystals blessed by the Pope, more like the vodka you pick up for a fiver from the dodgy bottle shop at 3am.

On this occasion, in desperation, I decided to decant it well before we intended to drink it. The wine sat in the decanter for 5 hours before we tasted it and to our surprise it had improved markedly, the hot notes in the bouquet and taste had entirely gone and a very nice nose of dark fruits and vanilla and the rich flavour I expect from a Two Hands shiraz. Slightly bitter finish that fades into oak and leathery tannins.
