December 20, 2020 - It’s definitely losing steam and should be consumed soon, but still very good. Tannins and acid have softened to very little, but everything is still very much in balance, just muted.

May 24, 2019 - Nose is jammy, with some tobacco, smoke, and sage. Palate is also jammy, with blackberry, rose, white pepper, and woody tones. The finish is fairly long, altho with some heat that takes a little while to dissipate. I used to like this style of wine, but it just seems a bit overblown. I saved a few bottles of the Dave Phinney era wines to see how they would develop, but IMHO it hasn’t really changed that much from the first time I tasted it 10+ years ago. The 15.2% ABV leads me to believe it will last a while longer, but I don’t think it will improve.

July 17, 2017 - Still drinking well. It has the slightest Amador Zin flavor to it. A Little heat but still a jammy fruit quality to it

July 4, 2017 - Last pre sale bottle in our cellar. David Phinney made some wonderful wines and this bottle was one of them. Very enjoyable bottle we had lost in our cellar. But thanks to Cellar Tracker for encouraging me to look for it.

November 14, 2016 - I wish we had more of this. The wine is drinking very well. Solid structure, plenty of fruits, but comfortably maturing.

November 12, 2016 - This has been a very consistent and solid wine through almost a case and a half. better complexity than the more recent vintages of Prisoner, post the sale of the brand.
