September 28, 2020 - Had great bubbles and was still great even though it was an older bottle.

September 30, 2018 - Clear light coral pink, medium mousse. Tight pure fruit nose, cherry and citrus mostly. Delicious dry lemon and orange flavours and a very refreshing dry finish.

Very nice should develop with some time.

November 18, 2017 - Definetly the cheeseiest, earthiest Champagne of the tasting. I liked it a lot. Dry flavours and finish.

(NV GOBILLARD Rose MLLE SOPHIE) Cabernet (and Champagne) Dear Friends, Many of my brethren in the vinous world believe I am anti-Napa (from a wine standpoint) but that is not necessarily the case. When I come across something from Napa that deserves attention, I'm not opposed to giving it the credence it deserves - in fact, I'm excited by the prospects. Such is the case with Marco Digiulio's new release from the Progeny Vineyard on Mt. Veeder - a wine that has a chance to blossom into something very interesting indeed. There are certain spots in Napa Valley that express their terroir in an unbridled and unabashed way - Diamond Mt, Spring Mt and Mt. Veeder among them (yes, all are at elevation although there are certainly pockets on the Valley floor with just as much potential for terroir). While never as immediately enjoyable as something from, say Oakville, the mountain wines of Napa posses a certain taut and difficult character that typically require 5-10 years to unfurl. As a volcanic outcropping, Mt Veeder may have the most potential of all (much is still untapped). With 1974 Mayacaymus as an inspiration, this wine is a true throwback attempt at greatness and it's still priced within reason for the top-end of Napa. Digiulio knows how to make wine from various climats in Napa and he knows the formula for 95-100pt wines - he was responsible for some of Lokoya's most prized treasures before starting his own winery with a much simpler and down to earth philosophy. With his namesake mountain series of wines, he's intentionally cast the point race aside in favor of the chase for terroir and expression of vintage - all in a region not typically known for allowing the land to speak as its primary motivation. If you are into Napa Cabernet and relish the big, untamed tannic character of the top mountain wines, this will not disappoint as it manages to buffer the masculine side of the grape with enough natural extractive and sheer size to balance the whole. It is a large-scaled offering but there is a sense of feminine grace buried within the wall of Mt Veeder tannins that sets it apart. In my mind, the 2004 is the most "elegant" Mt. Veeder example Marco has yet produced and it has a better chance to age gracefully than preceding vintages simply due to its harmonic state (although the 2003 is certainly a barn-burner as is the Diamond Mt). A top effort and one to cellar. For more information on Marco Digiulio, please see his web site: http://www.marcowine.com/ ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price: 2004 Marco Digiulio Cabernet Sauvignon "Progeny Vineyard" Mt Veeder (Napa) ...while completely unrelated, we also have a VERY small shipment of Champagne for summer - both have arrived and will be available in a week or so. Both are wines we've offered in the past and have had strong re-order interest so here you go: NV Serveaux Brut Rose' (A Passy Sur Marne) EXTREMELY LIMITED NV Gobillard Brut Rose' Mlle Sophie (Pierry) EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA9820 Champ9230 Champ9240

(NV GOBILLARD Mlle Sophie Rose) Rose’ Champagne Dear Friends, The bureaucracy of US customs was made loud and clear this evening when a farmer/winemaker in Austria that had been trying to send me samples of a unique Riesling that he makes high in the Austrian Alps (that I believe you will swoon over) has had his application rejected four times for a proper FDA number. He became so tired of the game-playing and the fact that the samples had been returned to him four separate times (at his cost) that he’s given up. Instead, our Riesling samples were enjoyed last night by his friends somewhere near Bad Gastein with roast pork - they told him the wines were excellent. I guess we will have to wait to enjoy these creations as the FDA seems intent on denying you the privilege of discovering one of the more inspirational white wines being produced in Europe. We live in a very complex world - one our father’s father would have a hard time believing or even understanding. When does the complexity become so intricate that we lose the purpose of the web that has been spun? The beauty of the human mind is that we not only aspire to make change but we have the real ability to do so - for better or worse. We also have the ability to reverse what isn’t working. Back to the offer... Top rose’ is one of the toughest examples of Champagne to find at a decent price and it is always made in far smaller quantities than regular Brut (unless you are Billecart-Salmon and then it appears to be made by the truck-full). Gobillard is one of the new stars of Champagne and there was a lot of chatter surrounding this wine when I was sneaking around Reims and environs last month - so much so that I bought the wine sight unseen without tasting it. When a relatively unknown producer makes his or her mark with Rose’ it is a special occurrence and Gobillard has done just that with a very serious wine that can compete at a high level. This is artisanal Champagne at its best and it almost makes you forget that still wine is your beverage of choice: ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the winery cellar: NV Gobillard “Mlle Sophie” Rose’ Brut (Pierry Marne) (this is not the generic Brut Rose’ - this is the Mlle Sophie cuvee) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ2200
