Community Tasting Notes 10

January 3, 2021 - Reading the notes on this wine is like watching a tennis match.
And someone gives the wine an 80? Whew. Grabbed a bottle on WineBid to get in the game.
The wine had some haze, murkiness to it. Called it Hazy, Deep Garnet, medium meniscus with high viscosity. The nose not strong, but definitely present with salami, meat, butter and some earth. Fruits of plum and blackberry on the nose, but definitely seem secondary. Fruit brighter on the palate, primarily sour cherry, with plum in the background. The meat and earth are more prominent on the palate. What I surmise here is that people looking for fruit forwardness are quite disappointed, those that like meat and earth find the wine fantastic and complex. At this point, body is Med+. Acidity is holding up at Med+ with fine, medium tannins still keeping everything in balance. Had length and complexity at Med+ as well. A bit tart (for me) is what keeps this from matching some of the 94/95 marks given recently.

April 13, 2020 - Wine Gopher is spot on. This was absolutely gorgeous, not a hint other then the development of secondary flavors that this was a 15yo wine. Beautiful juice.

March 19, 2020 - This is fantastic. Somewhat muted nose with cherry, flowers and earthiness of bottle bouquet. On the palate, it still has fruit (red cherries), herbs (thyme) but tends more toward earth (mushrooms) and mineral. Very smooth body with acid on the long finish.

March 29, 2019 - Starting to fade, but still has enough fruit to create a good balanced wine. Still has that great funk on the nose of bacon and mushroom. Has black fruit flavors like ripe plums and blackberries. Paired well with a nice New York strip. I wouldn't wait much longer to enjoy.

December 1, 2013 - Past its prime at 8 years old. Should have opened this bottle a few years ago. Too bad.
