October 2, 2019 - Medium-bodied and past its best days, the fruit is sliding into the tart, bright, stern, crisp red berry side with an herbal edge. The nose, which is the best part of the wine offers earthy, tobacco, cedar, leaf and red fruits. This is not a wine to hold hoping for better days.

March 22, 2019 - Enjoyed with dinner. It followed a 93 Leoville Barton, which is reverse order, but we feared (incorrectly) that the Barton was past its drinkability. The d’Estournel was vibrant but had the austerity common with St. Estephe wines. Tobacco and cassis notes showed through, good balance and a strong finish. A very good wine showing well.

July 25, 2018 - Holiday at Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld; 7/24/2018-7/25/2018 (Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld): Brambles, blackcurrant a little plum touches of sous bois, leather, earth, cedar. Juicy, spicy, chalky tannins, black fruits, leather, long and not really showing it's age. Good but not for me.

February 9, 2018 - Drinking at early peak. Dark stony fruit, cassis, and sage frame a still rich mouthfeel with firm tannins. Still quite fresh tasting.

Cherry and stony fruit more than cassis. Violets, broad palate presence and a density- thickness in a good way. Baking chocolate, and earthiness. There is some back end leafiness that adds to the whole. Medium full bodied. This still has some back end tannins. A serious, very well balanced, but not overpowering classic Bordeaux. Well done. 91
